Preparation of sludge based activated carbon with tar residue and its application in coal chemical industrial wastewater treatment
A cost-effective and environmental friendly adhesive formula was prepared by tar residue, asphalt and a small amount of starch, phenolic resin, carboxymethyl cellulose and some other materials.Using gasification residue(coal powder),biochemical sludge as raw materials to prepare activated carbon,a kilogram scale semi pilot experiment was conducted through extrusion molding, carbonization, and activation processes. The optimal condition was determined as follows:the carbonization time and temperature were 45 min and 700℃respectively,the activation time and temperature were 3 h and 900℃respectively,the carbon product yield reached 40%.The prepared 4 mm columnar activated carbon product has a well-developed mesoporous structure with a strength of 92.8%,an iodine value of 611 mg/g,and a specific surface area of 302.54 m2/g,fully meeting the requirements of various indicators of GB/T 7701-2008 Granular activated carbon from coal;besides,in coal chemical industrial park, good COD removal effect was obtained.
