Investigation on the mental health status of the elderly migrant population and the resident population in Guizhou
Objective To investigate the mental health status of the migrant population and the resident population in Guizhou province and provide reference for the promotion of the mental health of the elderly.Methods A total of 342 elderly people aged 60 and over in Guizhou Province were responded to questionnaire concerning active-aging,social networking and depression.SPSS 23.0 was employed for descriptive statistical analysis,t-test,and chi-square test to conduct comparison of mental health status of the target groups.Results Among the 342 engaging subjects,75(21.9%)exhibited positive depressive symptoms,of which 36(24.8%)from the migrant population and 39(19.8%)from the resident population.The positive detection rate of depressive symptoms showed no significant difference(P>0.05).There was no significant difference in the scores of positive aging and depression between the migrant elderly and the resident elderly(P>0.05).However,the total score of migrating elderly on the social networking and its two dimensions were lower than those of the resident elderly,differences were statistically significant(P<0.001).Conclusion Support to social network of resident elderly in Guizhou is better than that of the migrant elderly.Therefore,it is necessary to strengthen the support to the social networking of migrant elderly to promote their mental health.
