Objective To investigate the effect of mindfulness training on negative emotions of medical students with smart phone addiction. Methods Fifty-nine college students with smart phone addition from certain medical university were randomly divided into mindfulness intervention group(n=28)and control group(n=31).The mindfulness intervention group received mindfulness training once a week for 8 weeks. The control group did not participate in any psychological activities.Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire(FFMQ),Brief Profile Of Mood States(BPOMS),and Smart Phone Addiction Tendency Scaleconcise(MPATS)were used to measure the two groups(before and after intervention for intervention group, immediately admitted to the group and eight weeks after intervention for control group).Linear regression analysis was used to analyze the effects of mindfulness level on negative emotions. Results The score of mindfulness level in the mindfulness group after intervention was significantly higher than that of before intervention group and that of control group after eight weeks, difference was statistically significant(t=-6.233,4.199;P<0.001);the negative emotion score and MPATS score of the mindfulness group after intervention were significantly lower than those of mindfulness group before intervention and that of control group after eight weeks, difference was statistically significant(t=3.700,-6.376,9.381,8.259;P<0.001).The change of mindfulness level after intervention could predict the negative emotional change(F=7.141,P<0.05).Conclusion Mindfulness training could improve the level of mindfulness of medical students with smart phone addiction and improve their smart phone addiction behavior and negative emotional state.
