Objective To analyze the risk factors of the complications of newborns who underwent red blood cell transfusion(RBCT)during hospitalization. Methods Clinical data of 306 newborns treated with RBCT were collected. These newborns were divided into complication and complication-free groups based on whether the complications occurred during hospitalization. The information of two groups of the newborns was documented, including general information(gender, gestational age, body weight at birth,single/multiple pregnancy,Apgar score),hospitalization(length of hospital stay, mechanical ventilation time, parenteral nutrition time)and RBCT-related information(Hb value before RBCT,the amount of iatrogenic blood loss in the first week after birth, day age of the first RBCT,RBCT amount/time,cumulative RBCT amount and cumulative RBCT times).Logistic regression analysis was conducted to observe the risk factors for the complications of the newborns treated with RBCT during the hospitalization. Results The incidence of complications of 306 newborns treated with RBCT during hospitalization was 35.29%(108/306).Fetal age, body weight at birth, gender, mechanical ventilation time, the amount of iatrogenic blood loss in the first week after birth, length of hospital stay, day age of the first RBCT,RBCT amount/time,cumulative RBCT amount and cumulative RBCT times and cumulative RBCT amount were the related risk factors for the complications of the newborns who underwent RBCT during hospitalization(P<0.05).Conclusion Long mechanical ventilation time and bronchopulmonary dysplasia are common complications of the newborns who underwent RBCT during hospitalization, and the amount of iatrogenic blood loss in the first week after birth is an independent risk factor.
