Objective To compare the effects of quantitative computed tomography(QCT)and multi-slice spiral computed tomography(MSCT)on bone mineral density(BMD)value of porcine spinal vertebrae under different tube voltages and currents. Methods An ex vivo model of adult porcine spine(L1-L3)was homemade.Under tube voltages of 80,100,120,120,and 140 kV,corresponding to the gradual increase of tube currents by 20,40,60-260 mA·s,respectively,MSCT,and QCT were performed to scan the ex vivo model of adult porcine spine to obtain BMD values and compare them. Results Under fixing tube current but gradually increasing tube voltage, there was significant difference in BMD value detected by MSCT scanning of Li-L3(P<0.001),while there was no significant difference in BMD value detected by QCT scanning(P>0.05).When compared with the tube voltage of 80 kV,there were statistically significant differences in BMD values detected by MSCT under the conditions of 100,120,and 140 kV(P<0.001),while there were no significant differences in BMD values detected QCT(P>0.05).BMD values detected by MSCT scanning and QCT scanning were relatively constant under fixed tube voltages and gradually increased tube currents, and the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Under various scanning conditions,MSCT measurement values were lower than QCT measurement values(P<0.01).Conclusion Changing tube voltage has no significant effect on BMD values measured by QCT,and BMD results measured by QCT are relatively stable, while BMD values measured by MSCT are significantly changed.
