The Narrative Path of Sci-fi Films in the New Era Based on the Construction of the Traditional Chinese Culture:A Case Study of Wandering Earth Series
The release of Wandering Earth in 2019 and that of Wandering Earth II in 2023 have initiated the narrative paths of sci-fi film with Chinese characteristics in a new era.Among sci-fi films themed with disasters about the living environments,Wan-dering Earth series present a completely different worldview,values,and aesthetic style from the same genre in Western sci-fi films.For example,they put greater priorities on national righteousness over personal demands;they adhere to the values of home and homeland;they value the family ties and the master-apprentice transmission;they seek common grounds while reserving differences between different ethnic groups and countries,and they convey great concern for realities with distinctive Chinese ele-ments.The ideas and cultural connotations conveyed by Wandering Earth series are a creative transformation of traditional Chinese culture,which contains both the imprints of the oriental thinking and sharp features of the times.
