On the Cross-cultural Presentation of Canons in American Drama:A Case Study of Death of a Salesman
In 1983,the renowned American playwright Arthur Miller successfully presented his masterpiece Death of a Salesman on the stage of Beijing People's Art Theatre,which was a great cross-cultural display that exerted a significant impact on 20th centu-ry Chinese and foreign dramas.Whether it is the creative technique of"expressionism"or its comprehensive use of stage design,lighting,music and other performing means combined with the virtual and the real,they all reflect the great advantages of modern Western drama in arrangement and performance.The successive performances of Death of a Salesman and other classic foreign plays in Chinese theaters greatly inspired and enlightened Chinese theater workers by injecting new vitality into the development of Chi-nese drama in the 1980s and 1990s.
