Research on Construction of Learning Communities in Open Universities
As a key driver of continuing education, lifelong education system, and a learning society, open universities are the pathways for adult learners who are not able to go to higher education institutions to enhance their competitiveness in the workplace and strengthen their lifelong learning capabilities. In this study, both teachers and students of open universities are adults in employment, manifesting common characteristics in adult learning, like teachers'solid theoretical foundations, and learners'rich practical experiences. Thus a teacher-learner learning community is evolved, leveraging each other's strengths and compensating for the other's weaknesses, and being the other's supervisor, teaching and learning from each other in this sense will thus be achieved.Strengthening theoretical research and practical exploration of learning communities in open universities is of great significance for improving the quality of open university education and operational level of grassroots open universities.
