Research Progress on Comprehensive Utilization of Used Ion-exchange Membranes in Chlor-alkali Industry
The chlor-alkali industry,a vital part of the basic chemical sector, uses ion-exchange membrane electrolyzers as core equipment.Over time, these membranes degrade, generating significant waste.Effective recycling and reuse of waste membranes are crucial for environmental protection, resource recycling and economic benefits.Current recycling methods involve interdisciplinary techniques and require feasibility and cost-effectiveness considerations for industrial-scale applications. The status of waste ion-exchange membranes in the chlor-alkali industry was reviewed, recycling methods such as mechanical separation, chemical treatment and pyrolysis were explored, and reuse technologies were discussed.Potential applications in new material development, such as catalyst carriers, adsorbent materials and functional films, were also covered.Existing technologies were analyzed, and suggestions for future development were proposed, aiming to provide a reference for research and promote sustainable development.
