A Preliminary Study on Dormancy and Germination of Ormosica ihernryi Seeds
To explore the dormant reasons and germination character of Ormosia henryi seeds, the physical character, water-absorbing character and germination condition were studied, and the methanol extract from Ormosia henryi seed coat and endosperm were measured by bioassay. The results showed that Ormosia henryi seed coat is hard and compact, less permeable breathable, with concentrated sulfuric acid etching for 2 hours can improve the seed coat permeability. The 72 hour cumulative water-absorbing percentage is 96.3%, compared with the control increases of 93%. The seed germination of Ormosia henryi is restricted by seed coat, removing all coat and germinating under 25℃ are the best, with 80%germination rate. The inhibitor substance contained in the seed coat and embryo of Orrnosia henryi can restrain Brassicca carnpestris seed germinating, the germination rate of Brassicca campestris seed decreased as the extract solution concentration increased. The seed coat extract has the maximum inhibition, the germination rate of Brassica campestris seeds treated with 0.01 g/mL, 0.05 g/mL and 0.1g/mL seed coat methanol extract reduced 13% , 27% and 39% respectively compared with the control. It is preliminarily thought that one of the reasons causing the seed dormancy of Ormosia henryi is poor seed coat permeability, the other one is inhibitor substance contained in seed coat and endosperm.
