Analysis of Correlation Between Grounding Resistance and Soil Volumetric Water Content Based on Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient
Lightning protection grounding design is one of the essential tasks in the design, construction, and acceptance of modern lightning protection engineering.By exploring the influence of soil volumetric water content on grounding resistance, this paper aims to reduce its impact on lightning protection grounding design.A characteristics analysis is conducted on the data of grounding resistance and soil volumetric water content at different depths(0.1 m,0.2 m,0.3 m,0.4 m,0.5 m,and 1.0 m below the surface)collected in 2021 in the Special Test Field of Jinfoshan National Comprehensive Meteorological Observation in Nanchuan District,Chongqing.Meantime,a normality test on the daily average values of grounding resistance and soil volumetric water content is processed, and the correlation analysis is done by the Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. The results demonstrate that when the soil depth is in the range of 0.1 m to 1.0 m,there is a negative correlation between the grounding resistance and the soil volumetric water contents at different depths, and the correlation with the soil volumetric water content at the depth of 0.5 m is the strongest, which is comparatively consistent with the burial depth of grounding electrode. So,this research result would have a certain reference value for lightning protection grounding design in the future.
