High-Quality Development of Private Colleges and Universities from the Perspective of Educational Equity in the New Era:Favorable Conditions,Challenges and Paths to Achievement
Education equity has always been a matter of great concern for the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government. However, the educational standards of private colleges,as compared to public institutions, have generally been lacking, which has been a weak point in the overall quality of higher education. To address this gap in the pursuit of education equity,it is vital to enhance the educational quality of private colleges.Private colleges need to make full use of favorable conditions, overcome challenges, and strive for high-quality development.Continuous improvement of educational support policies, increasing demand for higher education, and an autonomous and flexible internal management system provide favorable conditions for the high-quality development of private colleges.Nevertheless, private colleges still face issues such as inefficient corporate governance,an imperfect system of checks and balances, insufficient funding, irrational resource allocation, imbalanced faculty structures, inadequate faculty numbers, lower student admission standards, and unstable enrollment scales.Addressing these issues requires efforts in optimizing corporate governance structures, increasing educational funding, strengthening faculty development, and nurturing high-quality students.
