On Chinese and Western Philosophy's being Mutually Complementary:Centered on Research of A.C. Graham and Others
Looking at Chinese philosophy from the perspective of Western philosophy is a common practice of many researchers,but it is less common to do research in the opposite way.It is believed to be mutually benefitable if both sides can look at and communicate with each other.Angus Charles Graham,the famous British sinologist and philosopher,is one of those who has made remarkable achievements by making comparison and contrast between the two.According to the findings of his research,on the one hand,as a"complement"to its Western counterpart,Chinese philosophy has become an important resource to solve some Western philosophical problems.On the other,Graham also used Western philosophy as a"complement"to find answers to the rela-tional thinking pattern,Zhuangzi and Mozi philosophy,and other Chinese philosophical issues.In the process of viewing the other as a"complement",both Chinese and Western philosophy have their own characteristics better presented,and this process itself also is evidence of the fact that the two,the Western and Chinese philosophy,are equal.
