Machida Saburo,a renowned Japanese expert in research on Guanzi presents his second installment of research findings entitled Mr.Machida Saburo's Research Research in Guanzi(Ⅱ).This publication compri-ses two articles:On Guan Zi Qing Zhong Pian and Guanzi's Thought-Centering on Wai Yan Category.Machida believes that Qing Zhong Pian shows an abandonment of metaphysical concepts and an affirmation of the physical world.These ideas were developed against the backdrop of a severe famine during the early Western Han Dynasty and eventually took shape during the era of Empress Lv to Wen and Jing Flourishing Age.One thing the author reminds his readers to know is that Qing Zhong Pian is not about Western Han Dynasty,but the local State of Qi.In the second article,Machida elaborates four characteristics of Guanzi's thought:firstly,ideas of all schools of thought can be found in the eight chapters of Wai Yan secondly,all the eight chapters empha-size hierarchy and order;thirdly,all place significant importance on moral introspection in politics as well as reflection of politics itself;fourthly,there is an underlying deep-rooted concern for land and economy.Machida holds that the concept of"moderation"serves as the theoretical foundation of all eight chapter of Wai Yan.
