On Han Dynasty's Initial Adoption of Confucianism—A Perspective from Crown Prince's Palace System
Crown Prince's Palace during Emperor Gao of Han's reign was a core institution concerning the continuity of Han family systems. It embodied the imperial family's concept of inheriting the legacy of the Zhou and the Qin dynasties and demonstrated an inclusive approach towards Confucian rituals and systems.Emperor Gao of Han opportunistically set up the functions of the Crown Prince and his attendants, thus the rit-uals of Crown Prince's Palace showed a characteristic of"convenience",and Confucianism was employed by Emperor Gao for its strengths in ritual learning. After Confucian scholars were commissioned to instruct Crown Prince's Palace, they introduced appropriate rituals into the imperial family.Unlike Emperor Gao's decisive and resolute actions,Crown Prince's Palace showcased a milder side of the Han family's political system.
