Diversity of Amphibians and Reptiles in Xiangtoushan National Nature Reserve in Guangdong
A specialized survey was conducted from March to November 2022 using field investigations and interviews,to under-stand the current status of diversity of amphibians and reptiles in Xiangtoushan National Nature Reserve in Guangdong province,Chi-na.A total of 82 species belonging to 24 families,3 orders have been recorded for local amphibians and reptiles,including 26 species of amphibians belonging to 7 families,1 order and 56 species of reptiles belonging to 17 families,2 orders,representing 35.5%of the total number of amphibian and reptile species found in Guangdong province.The national second-level protected wild animals in-cluding Hoplobatrachus chinensis,Platysternon megacephalum,Mauremys reevesii,Cuora trifasciata,Sacalia bealei,Python bivittatus,Ophiophagus hannah,and Coelognathus radiatus were recorded.Several species that are protected at the provincial level were also observed including Megophrys minor,Megophrys boettgeri,and Bungarus fasciatus.In addition,the threatened status of the amphibian and reptile species within the reserve were analyzed and discussed and conservation measures were proposed to address these issues.
