GC-MS analysis of the essential oil extracted from the fresh lemongrass
Objective: To investigate the chemical constituents of the essential oil extracted from Cymbopogon citratus (DC. ) Stapf (lemongrass) in Hainan province. Methods: The essential oil was extracted by water steam distillation and then analyzed by GOMS. The relative percentage of each component was determined by peak area normalization method. Results: A total of 12 compounds were identified in the lemongrass oil, of which the relative percentage that was more than 2% were general(49. 35%), nerol(29.52%)、geraniol(8. 28%),geranyl acetate(3. 16%), palmitic acid(2. 64%)and nerol(2. 56%). Conclusions; The main constituent of the essential oil from lemongrass in Hainan was citral, the relativepercentage of which is as high as 78. 87%.
