Progress in the study of auxiliary examination to distinguish Parkinson's disease from essential tremor
Parkinson's disease(PD)is a neurodegenerative disease that is prevalent in the middle-aged and elderly population.Essential tremor(ET)resembles some of the clinical symptoms of PD.The differential diagnosis between early PD and ET is chal-lenging.However,the pathophysiologic mechanisms of PD and ET are different.Novel molecular probes based on pathophysiolog-ic mechanisms combined with ancillary tests such as positron emission tomography and Cardiac 123I-metaio-dobenzylguanidine scin-tigraphy can help differentiate PD from ET.Therefore,to improve the ability of clinicians to differentiate PD from ET,this article summarizes the advances in imaging, transcranial sonography, electrophysiology, and other related examinations.
