OBJECTIVE To evaluate the skin irritation of patchouli oil and its components.METHODS Ac-cording to the method of skin irritation/skin corrosion test of Cosmetic Safety Technical Specification of China(ver-sion 2015),patchouli oil and its components,patchouli alcohol and patchoulenone,were used as test samples on rab-bits for multiple skin irritation test.RESULTS Patchouli oil,26％and 20％patchouli alcohol showed moderate skin irritation respectively.10％patchouli oil,15％and 10％patchouli alcohol showed mild skin irritation while 5％patchouli alcohol and patchoulenone showed no skin irritation.CONCLUSION Based on the safety considerations,patchouli oil should be diluted until the concentration of its patchouli alcohol not higher than 10％.
