Progress in the Study of Anti-hepatic Fibrosis of Phenylpropanoid Constit-uents of Traditional Chinese Medicines
Hepatic fibrosis(HF)is the consequence of abnormal extracellular matrix(ECM)deposition resulting from excessive repair triggered by various chronic liver diseases, including chemical liver injury, immune liver injury, alcoholic liver injury, and drug-induced liver injury. It also serves as an intermediate stage between chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis or liver cancer.Although hepatic fibrosis can be reversed, there are currently no definitive chemical drugs or biological agents for its treatment.Recent studies have demonstrated that phenylpropanoids possess certain preventive and therapeutic effects againstatic fibrosis, primarily through their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory prop-erties.This paper provides a summary of the effects of phenylpropanoids on hepatic fibrosis and suggests that traditional Chinese medicine phenylpropanoids may offer insights into the development of oovel drugs targeting this condition.
