Research on microstructure and properties of stainless steel corrugated diaphragm by laser welding
Laser beam welding was conducted on corrugated diaphragm made of austenitic stainless steel SUS 304.Based on the Minitab, the optimal welding parameters were selected and finally determined. The results showed that a well-formed weld could be obtained when the base laser power was 120 W,the peak laser power was 500 W,the defocused length was+4 mm and the welding speed was 1 050 mm/min.The microstructure of the joint showed that the HAZ was narrow and mainly consisted of austenite structure, which was larger than that of the base metal.Additionally, the center of the weld was composed of fine equiaxed grains, while, the edge of the weld was mainly columnar grains which was perpendicular to the bond line. The mechanical performance of the joint showed that the joint was fractured in the HAZ and its tensile strength was 493 MPa,which was 82%of that of the base metal. Also, the fracture mode of the joint mainly dimple-mode,and the fracture surface was composed of equiaxial and shear dimples.
