On the Pronunciation of Ancient Yu-group Characters in the Border Area of Hubei,Chongqing and Shaanxi:Also on the phenomenon of the convergence of zhi-group and wei-group characters into yu-group in some Sites
This paper investigates the pronunciation of the ancient yu-group characters of 91 dialects in the border area of Hubei,Chongqing and Shaanxi,and discusses the convergence of zhi-group and wei-group characters into yu-group in Shayang and other six sites.By comparing the similar phenomena in Huangxiao dialect and Raozhou Gan dialect,the paper holds that ancient xie-group and zhi-group characters with the medial[u](division Ⅲ)have undergone coevolution,while the convergence of ancient xie-group characters with the medial[u](division I)into yu-group is a later sound change.
