Causation and Non-causation of the Expression of Status in the Jieyang Dialect
In the Jieyang dialect, the reduplicated structure expressing status,in addition to locative prepositions and durative aspect markers,is also capable of differentiating between causation and non-causation,with the proclitic n(e)35 indicating non-causation and the enclitic n(e)22 denoting causation. This finding enables the classification of the Chaoshan dialects, including Jieyang and other genetically related varieties, into three types, based on the presence or absence of these(non-)causation clitics.
