Objective To explore the therapeutic efficacy of Banxia Baizhu Tianma decoction in manag-ing type 2 diabetes mellitus coupled with carotid atherosclerosis.Methods A total of 98 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and carotid atherosclerosis were randomly and equally allocated into two groups:the Banxia Baizhu Tianma decoction group and the conventional treatment group.The conventional treat-ment group received standard medical therapy,whereas the Banxia Baizhu Tianma decoction group was ad-ministered Banxia Baizhu Tianma decoction alongside the conventional treatment.Six months are one course of treatment.Results Upon completion of the treatment regimen,patients in the Banxia Baizhu Tianma decoction group demonstrated significantly lower fasting blood glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose,and glycated hemoglobin levels in comparison with the conventional treatment group.Addition-ally,the levels of total cholesterol,triglyceride,and low-density lipoprotein were notably reduced in the Banxia Baizhu Tianma decoction group,while high-density lipoprotein levels were enhanced.The Banxia Baizhu Tianma decoction group exhibited diminished intima-media thickness,plaque volume,and plaque count in the carotid arteries relative to the conventional treatment group.No statistically significant dis-parity in the incidence of adverse reactions was observed between the two groups.Conclusion The inte-gration of Banxia Baizhu Tianma decoction in the therapeutic regimen for patients afflicted with type 2 dia-betes mellitus and carotid atherosclerosis substantively reduces blood glucose and lipid levels,ameliorates carotid plaque condition,and there is no significant increase in adverse reactions.
