In order to reveal the spatial variation of soil physical parameters in Jianghan Plain, classical statistics and geostatistical analysis methods are used to explore the spatial variability of soil saturated permeability coefficient in the study area.In the result, soil saturated permeability coefficient show strong variation characteristics, with a coefficient of variation of 267.21%.The spatial variability is jointly controlled by soil random variation and structural variation. For the different soil texture, the variability of soil saturated permeability coefficient varies greatly. They from low to high are sandy loam(coefficient of variation is7.12%),silty loam(coefficient of variation is14.20%)and ssilty clay loam(co-efficient of variation is 16.30%).Moreover,the variability of alluvial deposits is greater than that of lacustrine deposits in soils of the same texture.Among different land use methods, the spatial variation coefficients of cultivated soil with sandy loam and sandy clay loam are 18.07%and 25.12%,respectively,while those of non cultivated soil are 5.85%and 3.29%,respectively.The variability of cultivated soil is greater than that of non cultivated soil.Under different measure-ment methods, the variability of sandy loam and sandy clay loam measured in indoor undisturbed experiment is 14.20%and 16.30%,respectively,while in field in-situ experiments are 32.73%and 35.37%,respectively,with stronger varia-bility.The variability of soil saturated permeability coefficient is affected by soil physical parameters, soil texture,sedi-mentary environment, land use pattern, determination method and other factors.Random factors such as land use have a stronger control effect on the variability of soil saturated permeability coefficient.
