Comprehensive Analysis of Human Gene Patents in China with Strategic Recommendations for Improvement
Patent protection is indispensable for advancing human genetic technology.There has been a continuous growth trend in the applications of human gene patents in China.Current patent analyses,are plagued by outdated data,imprecise search strategies,and unfiltered noise,which obstruct a precise comprehension of the human gene patent landscape,and impede the for-mulation of appropriate policies and industrial strategies.The human gene patent application data in the IncoPat Database from 2010 to 2022 are searched,denoised,and analyzed by refining se-arch strategies.It is found that applications have rapidly increased,predominantly from higher education and research institutions,in focused technical fields with narrow patent claims.The patents hold low value,and transfer activities are few.Several measures are advised to promote the strategy of building an intellectual property power and advance the development of the human gene industry.Firstly,it is imperative to strengthen intellectual property protection,support re-search and development,and encourage resource sharing.Secondly,it is necessary to refine per-tinent laws and regulations,and intensify law enforcement.Thirdly,it is essential to increase in-novation awareness,and enhance technical exchanges.Finally,it is crucial to nurture talent pro-ficient in genomic science and intellectual property law,and enhance public understanding.
