Experimental study on permeability anisotropy of compacted silt
In order to analyze the seepage behaviour of pore water in embankment filled with silt, the permeability of compacted silty soil was studied in laboratory. The samples were prepared by static compaction and hammer compaction, and the difference in permeability coefficient of compacted silt in different seepage directions and the effect of dry density on its permeability were studied by falling head permeability test. The results show that the permeability of the compacted silt obtained by the two methods is the strongest in the direction parallel to the compacted surface, and the weakest in the vertical direction, showing obvious permeability anisotropy. Moreover, the permeability anisotropy of the samples obtained by hammer compaction method is more significant. In addition, with the increase of dry density, the permeability of the two samples decreases in all directions, and the difference of permeability coefficients in parallel and vertical directions with the compaction surface also decreases. The research results can provide a theoretical basis for analyzing the influence of permeability anisotropy on seepage field in silty soil slope and further evaluating its stability reasonably.
