Study on the influence of organic matter content on the engineering properties of peat soil with high degree of decomposition
To explore the relationship between the physical and mechanical properties of peat soil and the organic matter content in the soil, peat with high organic matter content and peat soil with low organic matter content were mixed in different proportions to obtain peat soil with different organic matter contents.Basic physical and mechanical property tests were conducted separately, and the influence of organic matter content on the physical properties, compression characteristics, and strength characteristics of peat soil was discussed. The experimental results show that the liquid limit, plastic limit, and plasticity index of peat soil are significantly positively correlated with organic matter content, while the specific gravity of soil particles is significantly negatively correlated with organic matter content; As the organic matter content in the soil increases, both the compression coefficient and compression index increase, while the compression modulus decreases; The influence of organic matter content on unconfined compressive strength and quick shear strength is inconsistent, with the former showing a negative correlation and the latter showing a positive correlation; With regard to the quick shear strength parameters, there is a significant positive correlation between cohesion and organic matter content, with a range of 1.58 kPa to 27.68 kPa;The internal friction angle is negatively correlated with the organic matter content, with a range of of 11.1° to 12.3°.The research results can provide a basis for the engineering construction in peatland areas.
