A Study on the Characterization of Free Characters in Jack Kerouac's On the Road
In Jack Kerouac's On the Road, the images of the free characters are described as the"Beat Generation"in the United States in the 1950s and 1960s.He firstly created the rebellious free image of the main character to satirize the oppressive atmosphere of American society in McCarthyism.Secondly,he created the pure freedom image of the second hero,to declare the life attitude of young people at that time who paid attention to play, entertainment and indulgence under hedonism.Using a fragmented plot structure, improvisational emotional writing, and casual rhetoric,Jack Kerouac freely shaped two free souls"on the road"and perfectly explained the theme of"freedom".
