An Analysis on Women's Emancipation of the Mind in Smedley's Women in the Chinese Revolution
Smedley,a famous American female journalist,writer,social activist and feminist,lived in China for 13 years,at a time when the Chinese revolution was struggling to develop.In China,Smedley wrote a large number of reports and focused on many issues,among which the content on women's liberation was featured in the book Women in the Chinese Revolution.In the book,Smedley analyzed the polarization of Chinese women's values in the revolution,and also discussed the causes for this polarization.She praised those women who fought bravely for themselves and national liberation,and criticized those women who dared not participate or resist and who were indifferent to what had happened.She tactfully expressed that women's liberation should be unified with the national liberation.This enlightens us that in order for women to achieve liberation,they must overthrow the old system,create and gradually improve the institutional environment conducive to women's development,and strive to strengthen women's education.In addition,women should cultivate self-confidence and self-esteem for themselves,and strive to achieve their economic independence.
