ESP Teacher Roles,Challenges and Development Strategy
During the last 60 years,English for Specific Purposes(ESP)has become an important part of language teaching and there have been more and more researches and practice in this field.Due to the specificity and student-orientation of ESP teaching,the roles of ESP teacher are diversified and their tasks are challenging.Teacher training has always been a neglected part in ESP development,well legged behind teaching practice itself.Problems exist at home and abroad in terms of the number of degree programs in pre-service teacher education and training forms for in-service teachers.It is suggested that both education administration and institutions of higher learning should innovate in terms of teacher education mechanism and methods starting from the needs of teachers and the reality of teaching,so as to meet the evolving need of teachers and the society.
