Due to unique historical,geographical and cultural factors,the history of Singaporean modern and contemporary literature is relatively short.The literature originated in the late 1960s and developed rapidly in the 1990s,mainly referring to works written after the 1960s.Regarding the themes and characteristics,these literary works cover the rich diversity of South Asian history and cultures,including Malay Peninsula culture,colonial culture,ethnic culture,Nyonya culture,urban culture and Kampung culture.Due to Singapore's unique historical,geographical,economic and cultural background,Singapore literature has become one of the mainstreams of Southeast Asian literature,representing the context,characteristics and popular trends of the development of literature in this region.
