The examples of"quan(劝)"in 11 documents are analyzed from the diachronic perspective with quantita-tive statistics and qualitative analysis,revealing the generation time,process and cause of the meaning"quanshuo(劝说)"in"quan(劝)".The result shows that the meaning"quanshuo(劝说)"in"quan(劝)"originated in the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period,which was not widely used in the pre-Qin period and be-came popular in the Han Dynasty.The emergence of the meaning"quanshuo(劝说)"is related to the frequency,emphasis and change of usage of"quan(劝)".
