The grammatical features of suo(所)can be summarized into two categories:noun or quantifier with sub-stantive meaning such as place and location,and auxiliary word of number in the passive sentences of suo(所)-con-struction.Unusual usages appeared in the Juyan bamboo slips of the Han Dynasty,which are similar to that in Sima Qian's A Letter to Ren An(Baorenanshu)and Historical Records(Shiji),reflecting the separation of speech and writ-ing in the Han dynasty,and showing that suo(所)was getting out of colloquial language.
