Correlation analysis between Big Five personality traits and anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, and fear of disease recurrence in patients with oral cancer
Objective To explore the correlation between the Big Five personality traits and anxi-ety,depression,sleep disorders, and fear of disease recurrence in patients with oral cancer. Methods A total of 200 patients diagnosed with oral cancer from January to December 2022 in the First and Sec-ond Affiliated Hospitals of Anhui Medical University were randomly selected as the study group, and 200 non-oral cancer patients during the same period were included as the control group.A question-naire survey was conducted to analyze the correlation between the Big Five personality traits and anxie-ty,depression,sleep disorders, and fear of disease recurrence in patients with oral cancer. Results The scores of Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS),Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS),and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).Anxiety,depression,PSQI,and fear of disease recurrence in patients with oral cancer were positively correlated with neuroticism and negatively correlated with conscientiousness, agreeableness, openness, and extraversion(P<0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that patients with oral cancer with neurotic personality traits had a higher risk of anxiety, depression, sleep disor-ders,and fear of disease recurrence(P<0.05);extraversion was a protective factor for anxiety and depression in patients with oral cancer, and conscientiousness, agreeableness, openness, and extraver-sion were protective factors for sleep disorders(P<0.05).Conclusion There is a significant correla-tion between the Big Five personality traits and anxiety, depression, sleep quality, and disease recur-rence in patients with oral cancer.Targeted psychological interventions should be provided during clini-cal treatment.
