Study on Germination Characteristics and Dehydration Tolerance of Reineckea carnea(Andrews.)Kunth Seeds
In order to investigate the germination and storage characteristics of Reineckea carnea(Andrews.)Kunth seeds,a preliminary study was carried out on the germination and dehydration tolerance of freshly matured R.carnea(Andrews.)Kunth seeds through changes in temperature, light, rapid dehydration treatment with silica gel and germination test. The results showed that the fresh mature R.carnea(Andrews.)Kunth seeds were non-dormant,and their optimal germination temperature was a constant temperature of 20~25℃.The germination percentage under the alternating light treatment was significantly higher than that under the dark treatment, which should be a photoblastic seed, yet the germination rate under the alternating light treatment was significantly slower than that under the dark treatment, which was implicitly consistent with their shade-tolerant ecological characteristics. The fresh mature R.carnea(Andrews.)Kunth seeds were less resistant to dehydration and were recalcitrant in that the germination percentage decreased from(88.0±2.2)%to(59.0±6.4)%and(15.5±1.5)%when the moisture content decreased from the initial(19.8±0.1)%to(9.0±0.2)%and(6.0±0.0)%,respectively.Compared to germination percentage, germination potential, and average number of days to germination, the change in germination index was the most sensitive in response to seed dehydration treatments,so it could be used as a preferred index when testing seed dehydration tolerance. This study will improve the application,long-term seed conservation and germplasm innovation of R.carnea(Andrews.)Kunth seeds.
