A study on pollen morphology of five species of Melastoma
Pollen morphology and size of Melastoma candidum , M. normale, M. intermedium, M. affine and M. dodecandrum. Morphologic traits were observed by optical microscope and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that there were significant differences in the polar view, extendible extent of colporate, exine ornamentation between the five species. It could be inferred from the pollen morphology and the evolution rule that the evolutionary sequence might be as such, M. candidum → M. intermedium →M. dodecandrum → M. af fine→ M. normale, and the pollen in the purple stamen were more primitive.
