Assessment and Spatio-temporal Analysis of Rural Industry Integration Development Levels in Western China:The Case of Shaanxi Province
Industry prosperity is crucial for rural revitalization, with rural industries integration serving as a vital way to this end.Based on panel data from ten prefecture-level cities in Shaanxi province from 2016 to 2020,entropy methods,Moran's Index, and the coefficient of variation are applied to assess the develop-ment level of rural industry integration and to analyze its spatio-temporal evolution. Results show that:1)the level of rural industry integration development in Shaanxi province has been improved, accompanied by enhanced spatial agglomeration effect, although the disparities within the province have not significantly re-duced.2)No significant reduction in provincial disparities regarding the extension of agricultural industry chain and its multifunctional expansion, with efforts to increase farmers'income and reduce the urban-rural gap tending to more balanced development.3)The level of rural industry integration in Shaanxi province presents the pattern of"high in the south and low in the north",where the impact of low-value areas on bal-anced development is more significant compared with high-value areas.4)High-value areas for the exten-sion of agricultural industry chain are predominantly found in the central and eastern parts of Guanzhong plain, with Yan'an city and southern Shaanxi relatively lagging.Southern Shaanxi emerges as high-value ar-ea for multifunctional expansion of agriculture, whereas northern Shaanxi constitutes low-value area.High-value areas of increasing farmers'income and narrowing urban-rural gap are distributed in both Guanzhong and northern Shaanxi, with Tongchuan city identified as low-value area.Consequently, government can pro-mote further development of rural industry integration in the western region by the ways of facilitating the collaborative development of tourism, harnessing the synergies of secondary and tertiary industries and nurturing industrial clusters.
