The Phonology and Phonological Features of Xishui(Guankou)Dialect
The dialect of Guankou Town in Xishui County,with its unique phonological characteristics,belongs to the Huangxiao Dialect of Jianghuai Mandarin.This article summarizes the phonological and tonal systems of Guankou Town dialect through systematic description and acoustic analysis,and deeply analyzes its main phonological and acoustic characteristics.The results show that there are 23 initial consonants.The main characteristics are:①no distinction between nasal and lateral sounds,with more occurrence of lateral sounds[l];②[η]can be used as an initial consonant;③when combined with[ʯ],[ʂ]and[ɕ]are often pronounced as[f];④mixing flat and upturned tongues;⑤not distinguishing between sharp and rounded sounds;⑥ancient voiced sound becomes unvoiced.There are 41 vowels(9 unit vowels,18 compound vowels,and 14 nasal final vowels),and there is no distinction between the alveolar and velar nasal sounds in the in/iηandən/əηgroups,with the alveolar nasal being the predominant.And there are 6 tones(high and level tone 54,rising tone 55,falling-rising tone 35,falling tones 215 and 33,and entering tone 312)in the Guankou Dialect.
