Analysis of the Breakage of Bolts for Wind Turbine Blades
The breakage of blade bolts in wind turbine units is a difficult problem in the daily operation maintenance. From the aspects of the design quality and installation of the blade bolts, the problem is analyzed in-depth.With theoret-ical analysis and experimental study,as well as comparison between the broken bolts and the normal bolts,it is deter-mined that the direct and main cause of the bolt breakage is insufficient pre-tightening force, which leads to relative dis-placement and collision and wear of the bolts and the connectors during operation. The surface damage of the screws be-comes cracking sources and causes fatigue breakage. Also, other important factors include the impact of unqualified lu-bricant application during installation on the pre-tightening force, the impact of external damage of bolts during transpor-tation on the pre-tightening force, excessive maintenance interval or improper maintenance torque, and uncertain factors such as long-term vibration, unstable wind conditions, and extreme environments of the wind turbines.Corresponding suggestions are then proposed.
