Model Test Analysis of the Water Release Structures in Caculo-Cabaca Hydropower Station
Based on large-scale hydraulic model tests, the hydraulic characteristics of the water release structures in An-gola Caculo-Cabaca Hydropower Station are studied, including the flow regime, flow velocity, and allowable gate open-ing height under the surface outlet discharge, bottom outlet discharge and surface and bottom outlets combined discharge conditions. The results show that the shape and layout of the water release structures are reasonable.Under the high wa-ter level and large flow discharge condition, the lateral diffusion water flow behind the overflow surface outlets collides near the flip bucket, causing high aerated water crowns. The hydraulic conditions of the water flow in front of the gate and the aeration effect of the aerators are better when the relative opening of the overflow outlet gate e/H is less than 0.57.In case of a design flood,it is recommended to fully open the five surface outlet gates to discharge flood.
