On the Water Flow Propagation Characteristics in the River Channel between Wudongde and Baihetan Cascade Hydropower Stations
As the seventh and second largest hydropower stations in the world,Wudongde and Baihetan Hydropower Sta-tions have been completed and put into operation.To further utilize the benefits of the joint dispatching of these cascade hydropower stations in power generation and flood control,it is of great importance to explore the propagation characteris-tics of the river channel.The propagation time is analyzed with classical hydraulic formulas.Then,based on the actual statistic data of the propagation flow and water level in the river channel between the two stations before and after the res-ervoir impoundment from 2019 to 2022,the relationships between the propagation time and the water levels at the begin-ning and the end of the river section and the propagation flow are determined.It shows that the water storage of the reser-voirs greatly shortens the propagation time in the river section.The influence of the propagation flow on the propagation time of the river section is equivalent to that of the water level at the end of the river section when it is at a low to medi-um water level.When the water level at the end of the river section is at a high level,the propagation time is basically remained around a relatively fixed value and hardly affected by the propagation flow due to the influence of the return wa-ter.
