Analysis of the Seepage Characteristics of a 300m Level Ultra-high Arch Dam during Its Initial Operation Period
After the impoundment of a reservoir, the seepage field in the mountains on both sides of the dam and the dam foundation rocks will change dramatically, which may cause seepage damages and even threats to the safety of the dam. Thus, seepage stability is a key issue in the intial operation period of the project.Taking a 300m level ultra-high concrete double-curvature arch dam in Southwest China as an example, the seepage characteristics of the project during its initial operation period are analyzed based on the seepage pressure monitoring data of the dam from 2021 to 2023.The results show that the seepage pressure of the dam foundation is normal. There is no obvious seepage around the dam on both sides. The seepage flow is much lower than the design pumping capacity. The curtain grouting and the anti-seepage effect are satisfactory, and the seepage control system of the foundation and both sides of the dam is operating normally. The study provides important basic data for the operation management of the project.
