Karman Vortex Resonance Induced Cracks in Fixed Guide Vanes of Hydro-turbines:A Case Study
In Gongzui Hydropower Station,Karman vortex resonance induced cracks are observed in fixed guide vanes of hydro-turbines.Considering various factors such as the Karman vortex frequency in each overcurrent component, the nat-ural frequency of the fixed guide vanes, and the special structure of the flow channel, possible reasons of the Karman vortex resonance of the fixed guide vanes are analyzed. It shows that the problem is caused by the combined effects of va-rious factors, such as the increased flow rate after the capacity expansion renovation, unreasonable guide vane opening limits, and special shape of the flow channel structure.Effective preventive measures are then proposed correspondingly. The study can be useful reference for the analysis and treatment of abnormal vibration noise and cracks in overcurrent components in hydro-turbine units.
