SEM-based Analysis of Mechanisms by Which Physical Activity Affects Cell Phone Ad-diction
Abs tract:Objective To explore the intrinsic mechanism of physical activity affecting cell phone addiction and to construct a model between the two.To provide a theoretical reference for practical intervention of cell phone addiction behavior. Methods Through conve-nience sampling,588 college students(age:M=19.24 years,SD=1.20)enrolled in a university in Yangzhou City were surveyed using the Physical Activity Rating Scale,Self-Control Scale,Interpersonal Relationship Distress Scale,Mobile Phone Addiction Tendency Scale, and Appreciative Social Support Scale. Results The amount of physical activity,self-control,interpersonal distress, cell phone addiction tendency and apprehended social support were all two-way correlated among college students(p<0.01);physical activity di-rectly predicted college students'cell phone addiction behavior(β=-0.15,95%CI[-0.28,-0.01]),self-control(β=-0.07,95%CI[-0.14,-0.02])and interpersonal distress(β=-0.03,95%CI[-0.06,-0.01]),respectively,played a partially mediating role. And social support moderated both the direct process by which physical activity influences cell phone addiction(β=-0.15,p<0.001)and the first half of the pathway mediated by interpersonal relationships(β=-0.09,p<0.05).Conclusion This study showed that self-con-trol and interpersonal relationship distress partially mediated the relationship between physical activity and cell phone addiction in col-lege students and that the level of social support had a significant moderating effect on this process.
