Objective To investigate the clinical effect and potential mechanisms of Bushen Huoxue Shugan Decoction combined with Western medicine in the treatment of Parkinson's disease(PD).Methods From January 2021 to May 2022,ninety-six PD patients admitted to our hospital were enrolled as the research subjects,they were randomly assigned into the con-trol group(routine Western medicine[RWM],n =48)or the treatment group(Bushen Huoxue Shugan Decoction plus RWM,n = 48),the efficacy was statistically analyzed after 3 months of treatment.Neurotransmitters(including serum 5-hydroxytryptamine[5-HT],norepinephrine[NE],and dopamine[DA]),neurotrophic factors(including serum nerve growth factor[NGF],brain-derived neurotrophic factor[BDNF],and glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor[GDNF]),quality of life(including daily living conditions,mental health,humiliation,cognition,communication,social support,physical activi-ty,and physical discomfort in the Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire39[PDQ-39]),and disease severity(non-motor symp-toms,activities of daily living,and motor symptom scores in the Movement Disorder Society Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale[MDS-UPDRS])were included as comparators between the two groups before and after treatment.Results The total ef-fective rate in the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group(95.83%[46/48]vs77.08%[37/48],P<0.05).The patients in the both group presented significantly elevated levels of 5-HT,NE and DA,significantly higher levels of NGF,BDNF and GDNF,significantly increased PDQ-39 score,and significantly decreased MDS-UPDRS score than those before treatment(all P<0.05),and the improvements were more pronounced in the treatment group relative to the control group(all P<0.05).Conclusion The combination of Bushen Huoxue Shugan Decoction and Western medicine has ex-act curative for PD,it can effectively improve their quality of life and clinical symptoms by increasing the levels of 5-HT,NE and DA,correcting the disorder of neurotransmitter network,increasing the levels of NGF,BDNF and GDNF,and promoting nerve cell repair.
