Effect of mindfulness-based stress reduction combined with acupuncture on rehabilitation and anxiety in patients with intractable facial paralysis
Objective To observe the effect of mindfulness-based stress reduction(MBSR)combined with acupunc-ture on rehabilitation and anxiety in patients with intractable facial paralysis. Methods A total of 62 patients with intractable fa-cial paralysis admitted to our hospital from June 2021 to June 2023 were randomly assigned into treatment group(n =31)and control group(n =31).All patients were managed by acupuncture, and those in treatment group additionally received MBSR.A 8-week treatment was performed, aiming to compare Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA)(psychic anxiety and somatic anxiety)scores,36-item Short Form Health Survey(SF-36)(mental health[MH],social functioning[SF],vitality[VT],role-e-motional[RE])scores,physical function(FDIP)and social function(FDIS)scores of facial disability index(FDI),Modified House-Brackmann(MHBN)scores,compliance,satisfaction.The curative effect was assessed. Results After treatment,sig-nificantly lower HAMA scores(psychic anxiety and somatic anxiety),FDIP scores, and significantly higher SF-36 scores(MH,SF,VT,RE),FDIS scores,MHBN scores were detected in the both groups(all P<0.05),which were significantly pronounced in the treatment group(all P<0.05).The good com-pliance rate(96.77%[30/31]vs 77.42%[24/31])and over-all satisfaction rate(96.77%[30/31]vs 74.19%[23/31])in the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the con-trol group(both P<0.05).Conclusion For patients with intractable facial paralysis,MBSR combined with acupuncture has definite curative effect, which can effectively relieve anxiety, improve compliance, promote recovery, improve quality of life and satisfaction.
