Correlation between different TCM syndrome types and objective indicators in chronic heart failure
Objective To investigate the correlation between traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome type with brain natriuretic peptide(BNP)and left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)in chronic heart failure(CHF).Methods Two hundred and forty CHF patients including 32 cases(13.33%)of Yang Qi deficiency and blood stasis type,34 cases(14.17%)of Qi and Yin deficiency and blood stasis type,174 cases(72.50%)of Qi deficiency and blood stasis type, and 70 cases of phlegm type. All cases were classified by TCM differentiation type. The levels of BNP and LVEF were compared in patients with different TCM type, the correlation between TCM syndrome type with BNP and LVEF was analyzed. Results There was a statis-tically significant difference in BNP levels and LVEF score in patients with Yang Qi deficiency and blood stasis type versus pa-tients with Qi and Yin deficiency and blood stasis type(both P<0.01),and patients with Yang Qi deficiency and blood stasis type versus Qi deficiency and blood stasis type(both P<0.01).There was no statistically significant difference in BNP levels and LVEF score in patients with Qi and Yin deficiency and blood stasis type versus patients with Qi deficiency and blood stasis type(both P>0.05).There was a certain correlation between TCM syndromes with BNP and LVEF in CHF.Conclusion TCM syndrome type of patients with early CHF is Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome, and Qi and Yin deficiency and blood stasis syndrome, and which of patients with advanced CHF is Yang Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome. The increased BNP and decreased LVEF value have found in patients with Yang Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome, which have synchronous changes in patients with advanced CHF.BNP,LVEF value can as objective indicators for CHF with Yang Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome.
