Application of traditional Chinese medicine acupoint sticking therapy combined with intestinal function training in elder-ly chronic constipation
Objective To explore the application value of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)acupoint sticking therapy combined with intestinal function training in elderly chronic constipation. Methods A total of 120 elderly patients with chronic constipation were randomly assinged to application group(n=40,TCM acupoint sticking),training group(n=40,intestinal function training)or combined group(n=40,TCM acupoint sticking+intestinal function training)by convenience samphng method. The treatment was performed for 2 weeks, aiming to compare the scores of the Constipation Scoring System(CSS)and patient-assessment of constipation quality of life(PAC-QOL),the clinical effect,as well as the treatment-emergent adverse event(TEAE)including abdominal discomfort symptoms between groups before and after the intervention. Results The curative effect of combined group was better than that of application group and training group(95.00%[38/40]vs 77.50%[31/40]vs 75.00%[30/40],P<0.05).After intervention, the scores of CSS and PAC-QOL in the three groups were significantly de-creased(P<0.05),which were more lower in combined group than in application group and training group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in TEAE(abdominal discomfort symptoms)between groups(P>0.05).Conclusion TCM acupoint sticking therapy combined with intestinal function training in elderly chronic constipation has a significant effect, which can improve the degree of constipation, improve the quality of life, and decrease the occurrence of abdominal discomfort symptoms.
