Clinical effect of TCM therapy for post-infectious cough:Based on the Qi activity ascending/descending theory
Objective To observe the clinical effect of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)therapy based on the Qi ac-tivity ascending/descending theory for post-infectious cough(PIC).Methods Totally 140 PIC patients admitted to Taiyuan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from December 2021 to December 2022 were randomly assigned to receive either conven-tional therapy(the control group,n=70)or Shengjiang Zhike Decoction(the treatment group,n=70)for14 days. The aim was to compare accompanied symptoms, time todrug action, cough relief, cough disappearance,Cough-Specific Quality-of-Life Questionnaire(CQLQ)score. The curative effect was assessed. Results The overall effective rate in the treatment group was better than that in the control group(94.29%[66/70]vs 75.71%[53/70],P<0.05).After treatment, the accompanied symptom score in the both groups was significantly decreased(P<0.05),which decreased notably in the treatment group com-pared with the control group(P<0.05).The time to drug action, cough relief, cough disappearance were significantly shorter in the treatment group than in the control group(P<0.05).The CQLQ scores in the both groups were significantly decreased(P<0.05),the decrease in the treatment group was more common than the control group(P<0.05).The incidence of adverse reac-tions was significantly lower in the treatment group than in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion TCM therapy based on the Qi activity ascending/descending theory is helpful to alleviate accompanied symptoms, shorten the drug onset time, and pro-mote the relief of cough symptoms in PIC patients,it is worthy of further application.
